Social Fox Oktoberfest by Social Fox Brewing is a Marzen and was judged as one (BJCP sub-style 6A). It poured mostly clear and deep amber into the glass where it set up with a thick tan head with considerable retention. Its aroma led off with lager yeast and sweet bready malt notes but no distinctive hop aromas. The flavor profile was also dominated by pleasant malt breadiness and some sweet caramel, balanced by neutral (presumably noble) hop bitterness but no distinctive hop flavors.
The mouthfeel included sufficient carbonation, no alcohol warmth or creaminess, and no astringecy or other off-flavors on the palate, all consistent with the style. Overall, this is a crisp, flavorful, well- balanced and highly drinkable Marzen. It should appeal to a variety of beer drinkers.
